Ground Conditions and Container Foundations

The delivery vehicle and the container both need suitable ground, although they create different requirements. A heavy delivery vehicle may not be able to cross grass, mud or other soft surfaces safely. The final container position also needs firm support so that the steel frame sits sufficiently level.

Suitable prepared surfaces can include concrete, asphalt or firm compacted material, depending on the site and delivery assessment. Soft, waterlogged or unstable ground should be raised before delivery rather than left for the driver to assess after arrival.

A container supported unevenly can sit out of square. This can make the cargo doors stiff or difficult to close because the door frame is no longer sitting correctly. Good drainage also helps prevent standing water collecting around the base.

Tell the supplier which way the cargo doors need to face. Think about how goods will enter and leave the container and leave enough clear space for both doors to open fully.

Door orientation can also affect security and everyday access. A position that looks convenient from the road may be awkward once vehicles, fencing or stored materials are added around it.

Allow for the Crane Position

The delivery vehicle must be able to stop somewhere suitable for the lift. HIAB cranes have limited reach and need appropriate space around the vehicle while operating. Walls, buildings or other obstructions between the vehicle and the container position can change what is possible.
